In the Live Collision course, we were asked to create 3 different tasks with the objectives of Genre Shifting, Linear Sequenced Track and Non-Linear Original Performance. For this reason, emphasis was placed on sound design techniques and the general analysis of the genres in order to approach and compare them, as well as learning the procedures for the best possible approach to the objectives of the tasks.

The first task was to create a Genre Shifting Sample/Remix/Cover of a song. Using our DAW of choice, a remix/cover of an existing piece of music had to be created, changing the original genre. The DAW used was Reaper for the editing of the track, but also the use of appropriate effects and the use of Garage Band for the production of various musical instruments that accompanied the track. AKAI MPK was used to produce the sound instruments and effects such as reverb to create reverberation as it gives the track more space and depth, pitch shifter/transposition to shift the sound as it gives movement to the sound effect and makes it more interesting and complex and EQ to equalize the high and low frequencies for an even sound effect. In this task, synthesis techniques were used, sampling, audio processing, recording and mixing. [1] The Original Track I chose is Die For Love by B.I ft Jessi which has a vague Tropical House Beat, although the production is much more varied than this description might suggest. We even have an unexpected piano solo during the track's outro. B.I's vocals are tweaked with the perfect amount of filters and effects, resulting in a texture that feels fluid and hazy (Li, HouseX: A fine-grained house music dataset and its potential in the music industry 2022) and the song Black Mirror by Kai, which is an RnB/Hip Hop song and offers the listener both intensity and softness of sounds. The Sample/Remix I made is a Pop/Electronic Music style as the result was a soft piece that gives the feeling of relaxation but in the middle of the piece the rhythm changes and becomes more intense and dark. The colors of the sound along with the effects used change in between as the performer's emotional state changes from calm to rhythmic. My skills and techniques are not yet sufficient to accomplish exactly the goal of the task but there is improvement through the knowledge I have acquired so far and continue to acquire.

Then in the second task it was requested to create a Linear Sequenced Original Track in any DAW. With Linear Sequenced Track the track is treated as one long sequence that can be continuously recorded in real time. A linear sequence can also be edited by copying and pasting bars or parts of the song or sequence (Zimmermann et al., Tracking by an optimal sequence of linear predictors 2009). The DAW I chose to do this work was Ableton Live, the track I created is an atomosphere landscape with continuous background music while I changed the main sound in the middle of the track to make it more interesting. A necessary element for this task was the composition, orchestration and production of an original linear composition. AKAI MPK was used to produce the sound instruments, sound library for additional sounds that complete the track and give an overall atmosphere, while a recorded instrumental was included. Composition, sampling, sound processing, recording and mixing techniques were used. AKAI MPK was used to produce the sound instruments and effects such as reverb to create reverberation as it gives the track more space and depth, pitch shifter/transposition to shift the sound as it gives movement to the sound effect and makes it more interesting and complex, Frequency Modulation for frequency modulation using an oscillator to affect the frequency of the sound resulting in the creation of a rich spectrum, compression for the process of compressing the syntactic region of the signal so that the signal exceeds the limit the compressor reduces the intensity of and thus achieves the smooth connection of the sounds without being unbearable to the listener and EQ to equalize the high and low frequencies for a uniform sound effect. The characteristics of the track I created are .This is how the composition of a prototype track was achieved.

Still in the third Task, a Non-Linear Original Performance Set had to be made using the Ableton Live program. A non-linear narrative is a technique which disrupts the chronological order of events, meaning that the story does not progress from beginning to end. Instead, the narration can start from anywhere (Tian et al., Track-to-track fusion in linear and nonlinear systems 2015). By using Ableton, the techniques of composition, sampling, sound processing, recording and mixing had to be used once more. AKAI MPK was used to produce the sound instruments live and use basic effects such as reverb to create reverberation as it gives the track more space and depth, pitch shifter/transposition to shift the sound as it gives a movement to the sound effect and makes it more interesting and complex and EQ to equalize the high and low frequencies for an even sound effect. My skills are still not perfect but there is a gradual improvement in the approach and creation of music production.

In conclusion, through these three tasks, the concepts of Sample, Cover, Remix, Linear Sequenced Original Track and Non-Linear Performance became more understandable and the differences between the concepts practically and theoretically. I believe that the approach and achievement of the tasks could be done better both from an aesthetic and a technical point of view.
